hands-off music control
mution is an experimental music device using an innovative user interface. Rather than the typical combination of buttons, remote controls and graphical displays, mution uses a video camera pointing at symbols on the wall and motion detection to control the playing of music.
Feedback is provided to the user with sound and, where appropriate, speech synthesis. The user-interface on the wall allows basic control of the music. More comprehensive controls and set-up of mution are accessed through a web-based interface served from the device.
The advantages of this innovative user-interface are numerous:
- As the controls are remote from the electrical components it is a safe solution for public spaces, or where electronics would normally be susceptible to damage from water, children, vandals etc.
- The user can design their own user-interface and position it anywhere
- It's fun!
mution is still being developed, but more information will be added to this site as time progresses. Currently, a video showing the basic functionality of the device is available in the about mution section.
